Part number II: Cameron Devlin, Nick Sullivan and Joel King

Joel King: Left-back, 19, Sydney FC. Joel doesn’t have great stats in the league. I started watching him because he is the only young player (under 23) that has play over 1,000 minutes with the league leaders. He also has experience in the Asian Champions League. So my guess that he has something special.

My 1st impression was that he has a lack of aggressiveness. My 2nd impression was that the whole team has a lack of aggressiveness. Sydney FC runs to their own box when they are out of possession, so they sit and defend close to their goal. It is weird when one of the players step up from the last line. Even in the wider areas, they just wait for the opponent to cross the ball. That is exactly what Joel does. He doesn’t expose himself in wider areas, avoiding the attacker to take him on, but also giving them space to pass or cross, that’s why he has a low 1 vs 1 duel. He is always stepping down and getting closer and closer to his own goal.
